Pore perfecting face mask for acne prone skin
This homemade face mask for acne prone skin is an excellent natural treat for getting rid of acne breakouts and eliminating acne scars.
You may have read my previous DIY Chlorella + Peppermint Pore Perfecting Mask, but if not, let’s catch up on why these homemade beauty products containing bentonite clay are a big part of my beauty regime and discover the recipe for another face mask for acne prone skin.
Bentonite clay contains a wide variety of minerals including silica, calcium, magnesium, sodium, iron and potassium. Upon contact with water, or any fluid, its electrical components change, giving it the ability to absorb toxins. It’s fantastic absorbing abilities also mean that bentonite clay absorbs excess oil and sebum from your skin. It also helps to detox and minimise pores making it fantastic for oily and acne-prone skin.
Pore perfecting face mask for acne: Charcoal + Clay
The use of charcoal is not new. In fact, in the early 19th Century charcoal biscuits were used by people to relieve flatulence, during World War I, activated charcoal was used in gas masks to prevent soldiers from being poisoned by chemical exposure and it has been used to treat water since 1930’s!
Similarly to bentonite clay, activated charcoal has incredible absorption powers, plus antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which make it a great addition to your DIY face masks. These super absorption powers boasts beauty benefits for skin by drawing oil, dirt and other harmful substances from clogged pores helping you to achieve a flawless complexion and fight acne.
- 1/2 C Bentonite Clay
- 2 Tblsp Activated Charcoal Powder
- 4 drops essential oil of your choice (I like rosemary or lavender!)
Mix the bentonite clay, activated charcoal powder and essential oil in a jar (when using bentonite clay never use metal utensils or bowls as these can make the clay less effective). Mix thoroughly and store in an air tight jar and use as often as you need – I strongly recommend at least once a week, but if you can do it more often then you’ll soon see the benefits! Personally, I try to do it 2 times a week, I quickly mix it up, slap it on then watch TV or do the washing up for 20 minutes!
Making your mask:
- 2 Tsp Clay Mix
- 2 Tsp Warm Liquid (Herbal Tea or Filtered Water)
- 1 Tsp Raw Apple Cider Vinegar (optional, if using without – add an extra tsp of liquid)
Simply add 2 tsp of your dry mix with 2 tsp of liquid and 1 tsp ACV, mix well then apply to your face with your fingers. Leave for at least 15 minutes then wash off with warm water and finish with a splash cold water and your favourite moisturiser.
