In this post I’m sharing my travel beauty essentials that I’ve taken with me on my holiday to Sri Lanka. These travel beauty must-haves have all been selected for their suitability for those with acne prone skin.
I’ve been in Sri Lanka for a whole week and it’s literally the most beautiful country I’ve ever been too and the food here is just on another level! For the first time in years I’ve been able to fully switch off from the stresses of having a demanding job 9-5 and also running my acne coaching business during the other hours of the day! Until I stepped on that plane last Monday, I didn’t fully realise just how much I needed to get away. It’s also been amazing for my soul spending some quality girl time with my mama and sister on a once in a lifetime adventure and although I’m missing John and the cats terribly, I’d be lying if I said I wanted to come home right now..!
Travel beauty essentials for acne prone skin
Below are some of my favourite holiday skin care and make-up products I’ve been using on my trip to Sri Lanka to keep my skin clear, healthy and acne free!
This already featured in my ‘holiday essentials for acne‘ post but it’s such a travel beauty must-have, I had to mention it again! If there’s one thing that our skin hates – no matter whether we’re oily, combination or dry – is long haul flights! The air in a plane cabin is drier than a desert at just 10% humidity which means when you travel by plane, you need to pay special attention to your skin. Flying literally sucks all the moisture out of your skin and when you skin has been robbed of moisture, it responds by producing excess oil. Not good for when we’re trying to keep breakouts at bay!
To keep my skin hydrated and moisturised throughout my 14 hour flight, I regularly applied my hydrating mists, hyaluronic acid serum and facial oil to moisturise deep within the layers of my skin. For this trip, I took my mini OSEA Sea Minerals Mist as it comes in a handy 30ml travel size!

Facial sun lotion
I spoke about my all time favourite sun lotion for the body in this post here, but facial sun cream can be a little more tricky to get right as we have a higher concentration of pores which means our face is more susceptible to congestion and inflammation. Even more so when we’re prone to breakouts already! At the end of last year, I discovered the brand Suntegrity but living in the U.K meant that there’s no need for sun cream till May. This summer I’ve been wearing the Suntegrity facial sun cream pretty much on a daily basis, whether alone for a day on the beach or underneath make up for everyday wear. It’s non-greasy, sits really well on the skin and effectively protects the skin from harmful UV rays. They also do a tinted version for those that want a bit of extra coverage.
I don’t know about you, but as soon as I get in the sun my skin starts shedding like crazy, especially on my chest and shoulders! To keep my skin soft, smooth and free from pore-clogging dead skin cells I love a good old sugar scrub (the only time sugar is allowed in my life!) My absolute favourite is Evolve’s Tropical Blossom Body Polish, even the name sounds divine right?! To me, it’s perfect. It smells like heaven, the packaging is great and it’s also really affordable and a summer staple in my bathroom!

A make-up must-have for anyone travelling to sunnier climates over the summer. A bronzer is such a simple addition to your make up bag and has so many uses to help you achieve sun kissed skin perfection. You can use it on your eyes, cheeks, lips, collar bone, shins, shoulders – anywhere you want a soft subtle glow!
My favourites are Alima Pure Bronzers and English Mineral Make Up ‘Mineral Warmth’ for quality and amazing choice of tones but this holiday I’ve taken English Mineral Make Up in ‘Golden Warmth’ as I find it’s the most versatile shade!

If natural deodorants don’t get you excited (yet), then you need to be introduced to Schmidt’s Natural Deodorants ASAP. They’re creamy, moisturising and free from the nasty chemicals found in conventional deodorants. And the smell! Ahhh the smell! The choice of scents is just to die for. I mean, nothing gets you more into the holiday spirit like your pits smelling like Pina Colada!
Shimmering body lotion
While I use my bronzer to highlight specific body parts like collar bones and shins, it’s always nice to have an all over shimmer on balmy vacation nights. This holiday, I’ve bought with me the Nourish Toning Body Shimmer as it not only uses Frankincense and Myrrh resin to give a subtle golden glow, but also contains super-hydrating hyaluronic acid and tripeptides to maintain skin moisture after long flights, sea swims and beach days that can all dehydrate our skin.

Acne friendly moisturiser
Whilst sea air, vitamin d and de-stressing can have huge benefits on our skin, holidays also mean too many cocktails, late nights and UV exposure so I needed a serious moisturiser that’s not only keeps my skin under control, but also keeps it well moisturised and nourished without clogging pores.
Acne friendly moisturisers are one of the trickiest items to find and it’s rare that one meets my high standards when it comes to ingredients. You all know I’m a huge fan of the OY Cleansing Moisturiser, but this summer I’m loving the OSEA Blemish Balm. It’s early days (I’ve been using the OY moisturiser for 3 years now) but this beaut from OSEA could take the lead as my favourite. With acne fighting ingredients like Thyme and Tea Tree along with skin balancing jojoba oil this moisturiser nourishes whilst effectively fighting breakouts – a total winner!

I mentioned in my previous post that I was fully prepared for the bugs of Asia thanks to Incognito but if you didn’t already know, they also do a whole host of body care products that are designed to repel bugs! I spoke to the guys at Incognito before I went away and they gave me a great tip for those of you who really suffer with bites when you go abroad. Incognito recommend going as scent free as possible and sticking to only Citronella scents (which bugs hate!) as sweet, floral and fruity scents can make you irresistible to bugs and insects. Not the holiday romance you were after I’m sure!
I don’t know about you but I always get caught out with my poor selection of foundation shades when I go away. Despite tanning really easily, I’ve never thought to invest in a ‘summer shade’ foundation. Until now! About a month ago, I put an order in with 100% Pure and picked up the shade Fruit Pigmented Healthy Foundation in Peach Bisque which is darker than my usual skin tone but means I can blend it with my normal foundation to get the right match throughout the entire duration of my holiday and for the few weeks when I get home. Having dealt with acne for so many years and relying on foundation as my security blanket it nice to know I’m not going to get caught out this holiday looking like a ghost wearing too much bronzer!
Other travel beauty favourites that I’ve packed with me include this cleanser, shampoo and conditioner, sea salt hair spray, bright red lipstick, after sun and coconut oil!
