Want clearer skin? These smoothies are great for skin—and they taste great too! Here are some low-sugar, vegetable rich smoothies for clearer skin.
There are lots of reasons why you may be wanting to cut down on fruit, it may be because of a medical condition or perhaps you just can’t digest fruit very well. Modern, high-sugar diets mean that conditions like candida, diabetes and hormone-related acne are on the rise, which means more and more people are having to watch the amount of sugar they consume on a daily basis, regardless of whether it’s natural or refined!
Low sugar smoothies for clearer skin
Refined sugar is the single worst ingredient in the modern diet. It’s now believed to be one of the leading causes of chronic illness and disease and it’s also really really REALLY bad for your skin!
Simple sugars include natural sweeteners like honey, molasses, date sugar and maple syrup. These simple sugars are unprocessed and natural, which means they do contain nutritional benefits such as antioxidants, flavanoids and minerals as well as having anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. However, they can still be a little too high on the GI scale so should only be consumed as a treat.
These smoothies containing lots of acne-clearing vitamins and minerals, plus they taste great too!
Complex sugars like fruits, vegetables and whole grains contain an abundance of fibre, minerals and vitamins so it takes your body longer to break down which means there’s less chance of a sugar spike. However, I often see smoothie recipes that call for lots of high fructose fruits such as bananas, mangos and pineapple, all in a single smoothie – you’d never eat that amount in one serving so I try to be conscious of the amount of fruit I use in my daily smoothies and stick to low sugar fruits such as green apples, berries and citrus fruits and avoid sugary, exotic fruits such as banana, mango and watermelon.
